Laboratory for the production of tse-tse sterile males
This laboratory is located on the campus of Slovak Academy of Sciences and initially was built by the Institute of Zoology SAS and was entirely funded by the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna.
The main role of the laboratory is maintaining back-up colony of selected tse-tse species which supplies mass rearing facilities as well as some smaller eradication programs in Equatorial Africa. The laboratory also focuses on research of tse-tse mass rearing techniques and as a training institution for education of workers and researchers from African countries afflicted by tse-tse and trypanosomosis. Since 2013, Scientica ltd. has been responsible for the production and distribution of the tse-tse flies.
